Meeting Tony Scott inventor of the Scott Style of wood accenting in person

It was November 16th, 2018, at 7:02 am when my phone made a new noise that I had never heard before. It was the register sound on the Etsy app to alert me to a sale. This wasn’t just any sale… this was Builder Dads first Etsy sale!

It was this first sale that transformed the shoe racks from one color of wood to the complementing woods we use today. Up to that point, I had only made shoe racks of red oak and was trying hard to find a way to stand out. But then, after a request from Tony to use maple with cherry accents, the Scott Style was born. It was such a simple request, but it made the wood pop! This popular accenting style has now become a staple of my designs and has led to sales across the U.S.A..

As a result Tony and I have gone from seller / customer, to collaborators, to good friends who even share photos of our cats. Cats are so funny! This week I happened to be in Baltimore for work and got the chance to meet this legend of a man in person. We shared stories and laughs, drank beer, and ate tacos. Side note, Taco Mama has terrific food.

Thank you Tony for your friendship, collaboration, and support over the years! Also a huge thank you for your help in creating the Scott Style I now use in so many of my designs.
