Kurt installs a DeWALT DW735 Planer Dust Upgrade

Recently I completed the design of a modification to the DeWALT DW735 Planer. The modification removed the stock chip extraction and replaced it with an over-the-cutter 3D printed unit. Kurt was the first to purchase the physical part printed on the Builder Dads’ printers and he sent the following message after install.

Hey Dan!

Got the boot installed. I happened to have a 4” hole saw from a prior project and it worked great. Used your measurements and carefully located the hole and it was damn near perfect. I drilled a 1/4” hole initially from the top down using a brad point bit to precisely locate a pilot hole, as that’s what the central bit of my hole saw uses. Then, here’s how I made the main hole- top upside down, two clamps very lightly holding the top in place, with some wood scraps to provide a flat place to register. I ran the hole saw on reverse the whole time to prevent it from grabbing- didn’t take more than 25-30 seconds or so of light pressure to make it through the plastic.

Looking forward to running the planer now to see how it works!

Thanks,

Kurt

Thanks Kurt for the message! I can’t wait to hear how you like it once you finish your miter station upgrade!
